Application and Motor Selection

For many applications in the area of screening and short feeders, a rolling or elliptical action is considered to be desirable. This action is accomplished by using the VIMARC vibrator motor in its simplest mounting arrangement, as shown below. Assuming that a single motor generates enough exciting force, the unit is simply mounted on a good solid and perfectly flat surface.

Where the forces generated by a single unit are not adequate, two motors may be employed and quite simply coupled together to insure their synchronous operation producing maximum useful forces. (Contact us for information and assistance on coupling two motors together)

Where straight-line force is desirable or necessary, it is accomplished by using two motors equal in centrifugal force and rpm. The two motors must be installed on the same machine in a manner so that the rotors are parallel. The rotation of the two motors must be reciprocally opposite. Naturally, structural rigidity between the two motors is imperative. Two equal motors, properly located, will run synchronously and develop cumulative forces in a straight line. As the above diagram indicates, those forces in a straight line are cumulative while those forces at right angles negate each other. This is a totally effective method of generating quiet, efficient, straight-line vibratory motion.

Motor Selection

Six-pole vibrator motors (1175 rpm @ 60 Hz and 980 rpm @ 50 Hz) are used for driving vibrating screens, vibrating feeders, vibrating chutes, spiral elevators, shakeouts, shaking grates, automatic sorting machines, resonant vibrating chutes, screens, etc.

Six-pole vibrator motors are utilized in the largest percentage of applications. Due to the low revolutions, the life expectancy is greater than that of motors with higher revolutions. Other advantages worth mentioning are:

1.)    Higher conveyance capacity;

2.)    Reduced risk for sticky substances to cake together;

3.)    Higher output;

Four-pole vibrator motors (1750 rpm @ 60 Hz and 1460 rpm @ 50 Hz) are used for driving small to medium size feeders, screens, and deburring drums.

Two-pole vibrator motors (3450 rpm @ 60 Hz and 2860 rpm @ 50 Hz) are used for driving vibrating frames or, mounted to moulds, devised to densify bulk goods or, mounted on bunker walls, used to produce vibration preventing cross-webbing conglomerations. These vibrators are considered flow aids to maintain desired flow properties of bulk material. Generally the two-pole vibrator motors are assigned to intermittent duty.

Eight-pole (855 rpm @ 60 Hz and 740 rpm @ 50 Hz) and Twelve-pole (590 rpm @ 60 Hz) vibrator motors are used in applications requiring a larger stroke. These vibrator motors are used for driving vibrating conveyors, spiral elevators, fluid bed coolers and dryers.
